BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (Sept. 28, 2016) – Bonita Springs/Estero private school has been selected as a candidate to pursue accreditation, by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS).   This spring, Discovery Day Academy will undergo its second and final evaluation.  “We are thrilled to be deemed a candidate for this prestigious accreditation”, says Garcia.

Discovery Day Academy is a growing project-based learning and 21st century school.  Currently, the school offers programs for students in preschool through 5th grade.  Middle school will be offered in fall 2017, with the addition of 6th grade.  Future growth through 12th grade is planned. The school was named a P21 Exemplar School, by the Partnership for 21st Century Learning in 2014.   The academy promotes the 21st century literacies-health, financial, technological, civic, and entrepreneurship and the 4Cs-collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.

Accreditation review is ongoing, which is a natural progression of the school’s evolving and research-based approach toward learning.  “As a private school, we strongly believe in data and accountability for our methods, programming, and student performance.  We feel that SACS accreditation is the best fit for our academy”, notes Garcia.

SACS is one of six regional accreditation organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education for the states of Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.  The organization accredits both private and public schools, colleges, and universities. In 2006, AdvancEd was established to unify SACS with other regional accreditations, creating the world’s largest education community.
