Discovery Day Academy’s Head of School Elizabeth Garcia and Department Head Allana Cardenas recently attended the prestigious P21 Summit on 21st Century Learning, in Washington D.C. P21 is the leading national organization advocating for 21st century readiness. Discovery Day Academy has locations in Bonita Springs and in Clewiston.
The invitation-only event brought together experts in the field of 21st century learning to explore and celebrate exemplars of 21st century learning practices, and a call to action to make achieving 21st century learning a priority for all students. The event also celebrated the soon to be announced 25 schools of P21’s 21st Century Learning Exemplar Program, designed to showcase what 21st century learning looks like in practice, and highlight the schools and districts across the nation that are improving learning opportunities and outcomes for students by integrating 21st century learning into their curriculum, professional development, learning environments, and community partnerships.
Attendance included national and state policy makers, senior level executives from national and international businesses and cutting-edge educational leaders and innovators.
“It was exciting to share our school’s successes with 21st century education,” said Garcia. “We appreciated the rare opportunity to learn from others on this incredible stage as we embark on our school’s growth process.”
Garcia is the founder of Discovery Day Academy, with more than 10 years of experience in the education field. She is a passionate empirical researcher and writer in the areas of deeper learning, cognitive development and 21st century student outcomes.
Multiple intelligences and individual learning styles are Cardenas’s areas of expertise. Her educational experiences and personal research fostered her mission of advocacy toward exemplary student outcomes.
Discovery Day Academy was founded in 2006 as an independent lab school for early learning research. Garcia’s experiences as a primary school teacher, interest in generational challenges and proximity to the business community attributed to her desire to make a difference the our nation’s youngest leaders. Since the school’s establishment, it has grown to include three campuses residing in Bonita Springs and Clewiston.
